Revised 10-5-99 I've been advised to collect all the letters and emails 1. Send me an email. You don't have to write a long message if you don't want to. You can simply write in the Subject field of your e-mail: I Say NO to Proposed Amendment to 16 tac Section 401.305. I GUARANTEE your message will count and it will be seen. I'm confident the Commissioners won't let us down if they know how we feel.(First batch of emails and petitions was given to each Commissioner personally on 9-28-99 - Roughly 2500 comments all opposing these changes!) 2. Print my Petition or make your own - take it to work and ask your co-workers to sign it. Carry it with you all day and ask everyone you know to sign it - Recruit friends to do the same. I have created a Petition form. Just click here to go to the petition. Mail it to back to me: Dawn Nettles, P. O. Box 495033, Garland, Texas 75049-5033. But be sure and keep a copy. Please, do this ASAP. We only have until the end of October 1999. 3. Ask your Lotto Retailer for permission to put a Petition in his store for his customers to sign. Believe me, the stores are hearing the complaints. If you leave the Petition, be sure and educate all employees so they know what this is all about. You may need to furnish a clipboard. Or better yet, pick a day, night or nights to stay in a store and ask for signatures. This is something the Texas Lottery should be doing themselves but they won't. Be sure and go back and retrieve it! (I tried this with one retailer on Friday 9-3-99. I went back Saturday morning and they had 3 sheets filled out and their customers were taking Petitions so they could help too. They taped my Petition right in the middle of their counter with a pen on top! I was so excited! If we all do this, we'll have the signatures in no time at all!) 4. Contact your local newspaper, TV stations and Radio Stations. With enough calls, they'll pick up on our efforts and let the Texas Lottery know how we feel about the proposed changes. They'll include stories in their papers so everybody will know what is going on and can have an opportunity to voice their opinions too. You can take it to the bank that the Texas Lottery Commission will not do any more than the law requires to inform people of these proposed changes. So we have to do it for them. Don't moan, just do it!!! <big grin> 5. On or around September 10, 1999, the Texas Register will have a place notice on their web site for official public comment. (Now, the state has decided to conduct hearings across the state. We have more time - through October 1999!!!) 6. The Texas Lottery is having a "Rule Making Comment" meeting in Austin on Monday, Sept 27, 1999 at 10 A.M. at Lottery Headquarters. As you can see from the time and location, I don't think they intend to have very many people in attendance. I wonder how many people we could get down there? The more the merrier! (Had the hearing - We had 4 speakers there and I was one of them. Lots of press there too. I turned over 2500 signatures to them. Unfortunately, much of the press dwelled on the fact there were only 4 people in opposition. But don't worry, I plan to fix that!) 7. Finally, you need to help me spread the word. Send out an email and ask everybody you know to get involved. We need HELP! Cause, there's just no way I can do this alone. 8. Now if anybody has any other ideas, let's hear it! If you are helping me, would you please We MUST express ourselves in writing.
