Retailers Offer To Help Us Stop the TLC

Revised 3-17-00

The question is, can we stop the Texas Lottery Commission from making the proposed changes (adding 4 balls) and if yes, then how do we do it?

YES, I believe we can stop them. But since they didn't listen to us 6 months ago, I think we need to be a little more aggressive this time. And do realize, I can't do it by myself.
I must have your help
.

First though, I need to address the fact that I'm sure you're disgusted with the Texas Lottery and you probably feel that it's not worth your time and efforts to fight them again. I can say this because this was how I felt Tuesday. Then I realized that's exactly what Ms. Cloud is banking on to get this passed through. So I want to assure you that it is my opinion that we can stop them and I beg you to take off your "ill feeling jacket" and put on your "fighters jacket." Lets get what we want - don't forget - we are the VOTERS and the PAYING customers.
It is OUR game.

So, to stop this Proposed change, we need to do THREE very important things.

First - Everybody must voice, in writing, your opposition. We must have thousands of emails or letters and phone calls. Send emails and letters to Kimberly Kiplin and me too if you will. But Kimberly is the Official person with the TLC who needs to receive your communications. Then send letters to all three Commissioners, your local newpapers, your state representatives, your local television and radio stations. I will provide addresses and links at the bottom of this page for your convenience. This must be done NOW. We only have 30 days (til the hearing on April 19th) to comment before "some" action is taken.

Second - Call, write, email or fax Governor George Bush, Rick Perry & Pete Laney. The links and phone numbers are listed below. Tell them what you think of adding 4 numbers to Lotto Texas. Please - contact all three. This is more important than you will ever realize. If you don't do anything else, please do this one.

Third - Finally, we must prove to the Commissioners that the TLC has no sales staff and this is the most likely solution to their "sales problem." Surely, unlike Ms. Cloud, the Commissioners realize that to make a sale, the prospective customers should be asked or reminded. And the person in the position to ask their prospective customers to buy their products must have an incentive. And this is NOT the case.

For proof, all we have to do is stop at stores where we are not known and buy something. Coke, candy, chips, gas etc. Do NOT mention Lotto as you are paying - just see if you are asked by the cashier if you have your Lotto tickets. Then send me an email that says something like, 'Went to Exxon at Oates and Northwest Hwy in Mesquite - They did not ask me to purchase lottery products.' If you shop multiple locations, which I hope you will, you can include them in the same email. Or you can send me emails everyday. And, YES, I know I'm asking you to do something for free. Your rewards will be 50 numbers to choose from!

Do understand, you will NOT get anyone in trouble with this shopping report. As it stands today, most corporate chains are asking clerks to push other items.

An example of excellent sales is if you'll visit a Diamond Shamrock Corner Store and notice that when you put a coke on the counter to purchase it, the clerk will say, "Would you like a candy bar to go with that?" Or if you buy cigarettes, the clerk will say, "Do you need a lighter to go with your cigarettes?" If you buy a sandwich, they will say, "Do you want a bag of chips too?" You will probably notice them wearing a badge with a dollar bill attached to it that says, "If I don't try to sell you something else, this dollar is yours."

I believe proving this point will convince the Commissioners as to what the problems really are. There is nothing wrong with our Lotto Texas game - The Commissioners must be convinced by us because Ms. Cloud has convinced them that Lotto Texas needs a facelift - Does it?

Personally, I also think Ms. Cloud needs a training course in sales. Maybe they'll send her to Zig Ziegler or Dale Carnagie for help.

Since we need thousands of people to speak up, please print Petitions that you can find here on my site or make one of your own and take it to work and ask all your co-workers to sign it. Carry it with you all day and ask everyone you know to sign - Recruit friends to do the same. Just click here to go to the petition. Mail the petitions back to me: Dawn Nettles, P. O. Box 495033, Garland, Texas 75049-5033. A Great Suggestion - If you buy your lotto tickets from an independently owned store, ask the owner to help get signatures for you. As I learned 6 months ago, the independents are more than willing to get tons of signatures for us. They'll even keep blank copies of the Petitions so they can always have forms to get signed. This is something the Texas Lottery or G Tech should be doing themselves as a way to find out EXACTLY what players really want. But they haven't done this because they already know what players would say.

And, PLEASE, help me spread the word. Send an email to everyone you know and ask them to help us. Its the only way we can win this battle.

The Texas Lottery is holding a "Rule Making Comment" hearing in Austin on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 10 A.M. at Lottery Headquarters. As you can see from the time and location, I don't think they intend to have very many people in attendance - Just like last time!

Now if anybody has any other ideas, let's hear it!

Even though we must express ourselves in writing and
phone calls do
NOT count officially - the
Texas Lottery is still keeping records - so - call them too.
It's a FREE call!

To Contact The Newspapers

Below is a really neat link for contacting your newspapers quickly. Once on the newspapers site, click on "About Us," "Contact Us," or whatever. Send them an email telling them what you think of all this. The more mail they recieve the more coverage we'll get. Just click here to reach the site with all the newspaper links.

To Find Your State Representative

To find out who your Representatives are, click here.
When you get to this site, you'll notice a box on the left hand side of the page. Click on "House Membership." Then click on "zip code." As soon as you type in your zip, their names come up. E-mail them! Tell them exactly what you think of the proposed changes. Their email addresses will not be shown, but, never fear, all addresses for the Representatives are uniform: (In your emails or letter, you MUST give your name, address, city, state, zip or they won't do anything for you!)

firstname.lastname@house.state.tx.us
Example: john.doe@house.state.tx.us

For Senators, it is the same except its "senate" and not "house"
Example: firstname.lastname@senate.state.tx.us

If they hear from enough people, they will take action!

To Contact the TV Stations and Radio Stations

As I write this, I do not know of a good link like the newspaper link for the TV and Radio stations. However, I'll try to find one or if someone knows of one, please send me the information so I can provide it here.

And finally, there me. I will post your emails so please send it to me too so people will know there is HOPE.
